Pre-Spring Fast – Day 1
Princess Shirley Aquart, President of the Wisemen Board of the Universal Hagar’s Spiritual Church, has called a Pre-Spring Fast. The fast began midnight on Sunday, March 9, 2008 and will run through Sunday, March 16 at 3pm. Only water, teas, juices, and soups (no meat) are allowed for those of us in the School of Wisdom. I have opted to take the strictest path and intake water, teas, and juices only.
As I retire to bed this evening, I am surprised that only one hunger “pain” hit me today. The desire for food is really suppressed at this time. Some wonder about the significance of fasting. One major benefit is psychological. Think about it. If I can go seven days without eating period, then that lets me know I can control other desires. Hunger is natural, but even natural desires must be controlled. For instance, it is natural to seek pleasure, but if you are in college your studies come first.
Saints and friends, I will be writing daily whilst going through this fast. I’m not sure what I will talk about this week. I can say that I feel good right now; this fast is already having a positive effect. For me, food is sort of a drug. Princess Georgia Latimer (my grandmother) told me as a child, “George, you overeat because of your nerves. If you can ever get control of your nerves, you will stop overeating.” I have found this to be true, long after she left this physical realm. Maybe we will pick up on this tomorrow. Peace and Love to all. Good cheers to all who are fasting—you made it to day one!
Your obedient servant,
Rev. George H. Latimer-Knight
