Today, 90 years ago, Prophet G. W. Hurley, Mrs. C. B. Hurley, and four of their children (Joseph, Erma, Georgia, & Selena) gathered in a Detroit storefront to open the Universal Hagar’s Spiritual Church. As divine providence would have it a gentlemen walked in, making the total in attendance seven. Prophet was probably the only one there who fully saw the vision of what was to come. But in time Mrs. Hurley became the Rev. Mother C. B. Hurley, Erma became Mme. Hurley, Georgia became Princess Latimer, and Selena became Rev. Hurley. From this first service, all the patriarchs and matriarchs flowed. And thanks to all the dedicated servants through the years, we are able to celebrate 90 years of serving God in Spirit and in Truth.
I now leave you with several scriptures…
“I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works. I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.” — Psalm 9:1, 2
“Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity…The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.” — Psalm 37:1, 23
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” — Psalm 91:1
“For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” —Romans 8:6
If it had not been for Father Hurley, Mother Hurley, Prince Surbadger, Princess Hatchett, Prince Bailey, Princess Latimer, Princess Childs, and the many other leaders, pastors, ministers, and saints, I shudder to think where I’d be today.
Your obedient servant,
Rev. George H. Latimer-Knight
