The mind, body, and spirit are interconnected. We cannot obtain success unless all three are in order. In this 9-part series, we are going address this subject in detail. The first three posts will define and introduce each individual term. The other posts will discuss the terms in pairs to see how these co-equal parts of our being work together.
(1) The Mind
The mind is the battlefield of life. In the mind is recorded all the events of our lives. Those who suffer with mental health issues understand more than most the value of a sound mind. Paul wrote, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
The phrase “sound mind” refers to “discipline, i.e. self-control.” (Strong’s Greek #4995) The mind is also the seat of human will. Without a disciplined mind we will be lost. A sound mind takes work. We have to take time every day to develop the mind. Mind development comes in various forms—reading, writing, and thinking. Education, whether formal or independent, keeps the mind strong.
