“A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.”—Proverbs 15:13
Happiness comes from within. Superficial external changes don’t create a lasting effect. Some like the phrase—fix your face. In other words, just smile no matter how you feel. Now, in some ways this works. Smiling does make me feel better; and probably you too. But what’s even better than a fake smile is a natural smile. When you feel good, the smile is genuine.
Our task then is to build genuine happiness. Major problems do arise in life. Tragedies happen to all of us. Setbacks and disappointments happen to all of us. My recommendation is to face your problems head on! No matter what, hold to your faith in the inward Christ. Know, in your heart, that things will work out. If you hold on to truth, and have faith, you can keep your smile. Not a fake smile but a smile welling from within, knowing that God will never leave you alone. Happiness starts within.
