All Hail to the Christ within His Temple, Minister Patrick Mead of Rochester Church of Christ,

I greet you with the holy word, “Peace”. I also greet you with love despite my misgivings about some of your comments on the Universal Hagar’s Spiritual Church in your piece which you wrote, ironically, on the 84th anniversary of our founding.

The two young men who posted those pictures and comments on the Internet were acting legally. Going onto private property without permission is called trespassing which is what these men do on a regular basis. I am surprised, considering your intelligence and level of minstry, that you would use them as a source on the history of our organization.

The Universal Hagar’s Spiritual Church is nowhere near dead. Is it as big as when Father Hurley was in the body? No. Are we on the brink of ruin? Far from it. We just ended our 84th annual August convention last week. We had a grand time. We are truly working from a business standpoint to strengthen our pastors throughout the bounds and give them the room to grow.

We have over 40 temples in 16 states. Our membership contains a diverse body of individuals. We have doctors, lawyers, business owners, financial experts, engineers, information technology professionals, educators, community activists, and a large segment of young people. We, the youth of the U.H.S.C., are working to keep the organization strong.

The U.H.S. Church is not build around the man Hurley but the spirit the man embodied. No doubt we invoke his name and continue to display his image in our literature and temples, as well as those of all of our past leaders. When I say, “Hurley”, I am really thinking about the principles he left on record and the legacy he left behind. His neighbors testified, years after his death that he paid off their mortgages during the Great Depression even though they were not members and he never asked for the money back. Yes his followers cared for him but that was because he cared for them. The house he lived in was paid for prior to starting the organization. He had rescue homes for wayward children in various states.

Our involvement in the community never stopped here in Detroit or across the country. The reason the church looked the way it did is because we are in the midst of renovating our National Headquarters. Please come by one of our temples. Yes some are few in number but new members have been added to the rolls according to reports during our convention.

I am not trying to convenience you that our doctrine is right and yours is wrong. I am just asking that you show respect to Father Hurley as the great leader history records him as. Do not dismiss us because we don’t have millions of members. Do not dismiss us because our ways may seem strange or weird on the surface. And lastly do not dismiss us without actually taking the time to get to know us.

I thank God Father Hurley came on the scene. I thank God he taught us about the doctrine of Jesus the Christ. I thank God he told us we are God within (Psalm 82:6, John 10:34-38, I Corinthians 6:19). I thank God Father Hurley taught that preserving truth is more important than conforming to the status quo (Romans 12:2). Most of all I thank God that I was taught to study (II Timothy 2:15) and to appreciate the contribution of others to the advancing of religious and philosophical thought even those whom I may not agree with.

When our Headquarters is reopened, I will invite you and those two young men to come and celebrate with us. Feel free to call or email me; just go on the website FatherHurley.com for my contact information.

Remember, peace, joy, happiness, success, and prosperity belongs to all who trust and believe in God in Spirit and in Truth. I pray God blesses your ministry as he continues to bless the ministries of the U.H.S. Church throughout her bounds.

I have the honor to be your obedient servant,

All Hail to the Christ Within,

What a great privilege to write you again. My thoughts today led me to finally expand on 2008 – The Year of Boldness. Just a few moments ago, I heard the scripture, “Awake thou that sleepest.” I was not sure where it came from, so of course I had to look it up.

Interestingly enough, my search led me to the writings of Paul, who believed in the light of Christ. Remember it was Paul, whose name was Saul, who was knocked off his horse while on the Damascus road by the light of Christ and converted to the Apostle we know him to be.

In Ephesians 4:17, Paul begins dealing with the subject of “Living as Children of Light” (NIV subheading). Going down to chapter 5, verse 11, Paul declares, “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.”

Saints and friends it is time we live above the mediocre. Mediocre is substandard or simply ordinary. Too many people are settling for mediocre lives. Too many are taking whatever life throws at them and thinking they can never achieve more. None of us have to be victims of the world system, which says certain races are inferior or women are less intelligent than men. It is time we wake up!

In verse 14 of chapter 5 Paul says, “…Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.” Here dead is referring to spiritual death. It is time we see things for what they are and declare them to be so. As verse 11 teaches us, we must not only refrain from fellowshipping with darkness, but we must boldly correct it.

Saints, stop bowing down to the will of the Evil One—stand up and let your righteous voice be heard. I thank God, that I was reminded of this today on my job. We must not let foolishness continue, we must take a stand . Glory! We must take a stand. Thank you Kind Spirit. We must take a stand.

Saints know that you are God within. I’m not telling you to go around being obnoxious to your friends, loved ones, coworkers, and classmates. BUT I’m telling you to be a child of God everywhere you go. If you go along with wrong behavior, you are just as wrong. None of us are perfect, but no saint of God should let evil pass without declaring a word of objection.

The Year of Boldness is well under way. Oh the spirit of God will be moving mightily this year. Be not afraid saints and friends. Stand up for what you believe in. Socrates, that great philosopher, said if our beliefs are not worth living and dying for, then they are not worth believing in. Are you willing to put yourself on the line for your beliefs? If not, ask yourself if you really believe those things.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been far too silent during The Year of Boldness. Silence is golden and has its place. But there are other times that the words given by God must be spoken so that order and righteousness can prevail.

I have the honor to be your obedient servant,
