“He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.”—Proverbs 14:31
You cannot say you love God, Jesus, the universe, or whatever your flavor is, and oppress the poor. I just saw a video the other day of an interview of a young lady. She said she’s 30 years old and has four children. The interviewer asked her about what public assistance she gets. A conservative group is sharing the clip to advance their own cause. I was appalled!
I agree that there are people gaming the so-called welfare system. But I don’t agree with demeaning anyone. Get to know people’s whole story. People are going through living hells everyday. I’m a believer in reading success literature, writing down your goals, and having a purposeful vision. I believe a person can—through hard work and due diligence—bring themselves out of their deplorable condition. But many people need more than a booklist and a pat on the damn back. They need assistance. They need help. They need prayer. They need spiritual instruction. Many need mentors to walk them step-by-step through the principles of success.
Let that be your goal. Help the least in your communities. If you’re reading this—hearing this—then take up this cause. Uplift the fallen humanity.
